Celebs help raise $2.56 million for Japan
A telethon to raise money for Christchurch had many famous names contributing to the cause. Christchurch was raising money to aid Japan with their relief efforts following the massive earthquake that struck the region in February.
The show was hosted by Rachel Hunter, Mike McRoberts and Brooke Howard-Smith. Live on the air New Zealand comedian Ben Boyce shaved his head. Boyce had been known for his signature dreadlocks, a hairstyle he has maintained for over eight years.
Fellow New Zealander and actors Martin Henderson and Anna Paquin took part in a hangi, a traditional way of cooking food on heated rocks. Additional items from stars like Lady Gaga, Katy Perry were auctioned off to the highest bidders.
When the telethon had concluded, over $2.56 million dollars had been raised.
If an organization is interested in holding a similar event, one of the first things to do is contact a telephone answering service to set up ways to manage incoming calls. Next would be to contact as many different organizations and people as possible to make donations for your cause you can offer live on the air.
